Charity Golf Tournament

AMS' beneficiary for the Golf Day is once again, the MPULE KWELAGOBE CHILDREN’S CENTRE a place of safety that provides short-term residential care, support and protection to Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC’s) where the traditional caring structures have failed.
The centre is run by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development through the Department of Social Protection (Division of Child Protection Services).
The facility was opened in the year 2000 and was initially run by the Roman Catholic Church in partnership with the Ministry of Local Government-Department of Social Services, the current Department of Social Protection. The Church handed the Centre to the Government in 2005 and it became a fully managed Government institution.
The facility was meant to provide temporary shelter for children in difficulties while a long-term arrangement for care is being made such as family reconstruction, fostering or adoption. As a Government owned centre it has become a model of care for OVC's in need of protection.
The residential facility was donated by Debswana Jwaneng Mine as part of its Social Responsibility to the Community. The centre which accommodates children from birth to 18 years old was named after Miss Mpule Kwelagobe who won Miss Universe in 1999.
